Career: Design Engineer in automotive industry

"Engineering is such a broad field, if you haven't figured out your future direction, get more involved. There are many activities, student project, event, research, and more at NKU that can help you find the future path."

I did research and joined some projects, it helps to reenforce what I learn from class. At the same time, during the process of working on those projects helped me find an aera that I like and for my future career. I think communication and critical thinking are really important skills for whatever you are doing. I learned and improved a lot of my CAD skill by participate BAJA SAE project, it helps for my future career as a design engineer.

Find Your Passions & Build Your Future

Group of students working on electronics.
  • Co-Curricular Opportunities: You have many opportunities to work with other students in teams under the supervision of faculty to develop state of the art systems or conduct research leading to publications. Out mini-BAJA team builds a new off-road vehicle each year and participates in nationwide competitions. Another example is advanced digital construction that implements additive manufacturing principles to the fabrication of homes and office buildings. Research areas include investigation of mechanical properties of new materials and composites at micro- and macroscales. The UR_STEM projects make it possible for unexperienced undergraduate students to engage in research under the supervision of faculty leading to presentations in conferences and publications.
  • Internships: The mechanical & manufacturing engineering technology students are sought by industry to receive hands-on training on the most advanced technologies and industrial practices that prepare them for launching successful careers, usually with the same companies that sponsor their COOP experience. These well-paid internships help students appreciate the concepts and principles taught in classroom leading to enhanced competencies in design, problem-solving as well as oral, written and graphical communication.
  • State-of-the-Art Equipment and Unparalleled Learning Opportunities: Our mechanical & manufacturing engineering technology program, equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories, well equipped with training modules that apply technology principles to the mechanical, hydraulics and thermodynamic systems provides unparalleled learning opportunities to our domestic students as well as our international students who come from tens of countries abroad. The main strength of our program is its ABET accreditation which assures crucial competencies in problem-solving, design, manufacturing, testing, quality control, and communication.
