Now’s the time to jump-start your career. GED-Based Scholars is a program dedicated to meet the needs of adult students who wish to earn their GED while working towards their four-year degree at NKU.

Now accepting applications for those enrolled at  in Newport, KY.

How It Works

1. Inquiry

  • Students inquire through NKU or Campbell County Adult Education
  • All inquires are routed to Campbell County Adult Education
  • GED Ready tests will be used to determine readiness for GBS

2. Admission

  • Campbell County Adult Education and NKU reps work with student to complete .

3. Orientation

  • Students will be enrolled in a virtual orientation module in Canvas, or an in-person orientation at Campbell County Adult Education.
  • Student will go through modules on topics such as myNKU (student information portal); student code of conduct; student financial assistance; resources available; and much more. 
  • Students will either upload their picture or visit campus to obtain their NKU All Card.

4. Enrollment

  • Student meets either virtually or in-person with ATC advisor to select course(s).
  • ATC advisor helps to officially schedule course(s), prints off or emails class schedule, and goes over any course-specific information (such as textbooks needed).
  • Student will attend virtual or in-person welcome the week before classes begin.

5. Classes Begin

  • ATC advisor will check in with student periodically and at mid-term.
  • ATC advisor will reach out before registration for next semester begins to schedule an advising appointment. 
  • Student will work with ATC advisor to transition to an NKU degree-seeking program upon obtaining GED.Â
